About Diatonic
I’m David Sawatzky, web design freelancer under the moniker of Diatonic Web Development. Diatonic was born in 2020 out of an insatiable drive to learn and create, and a love for coding. After several years as a professor of music, something called Covid came along and my world changed forever. I jumped head-first into web development and haven’t looked back.
You might ask how a someone in music could get into web development. Actually, its not as much of a stretch as it may appear. Music, after all, is its own code. It has its own logic, conventions and structures, all encoded into a system of symbols and notation. And its all wrapped around solid theoretical systems of melody, harmony, and rhythm. Once deciphered, the finished product is a creative marvel of sound that always exudes a reaction from a listener.
This is how I approach my own code and design work – assembling structured bits of information in order to create something that’s creative, unique, functional, and fully representative of the subject at hand. Whether it’s writing a web application in a JavaScript framework like React or Vue, building databases and APIs with PostgreSQL and GraphQL, building WordPress sites, using platforms like Wix or Squarespace, or just writing straight-up HTML, CSS and JavaScript, the ultimate goal is to give your business or non-profit website a character and design that works for you and best represents who you are and what you do.
Give me a shout if you’re looking to get online, need help with a current project, or have a site that needs a makeover. I’m more than happy to help.
